Basic Black and White {23 of 30}

necklace - Kellie Creates (buy)
bracelet - World Market
Calvin Klein dress - Marshalls
Merona wedges - Target

I've been having this issue lately where my back just randomly spasms, especially when I'm bending over or just really stressed out. That's of no interest to you, I'm sure, but this problem influenced my decision to wear a dress yesterday. You see, along with the back spasms comes a tightness that prevents me from being able to touch my toes or reach for the floor in any way, and putting pants on is quite the challenge. I decided I wasn't up for the challenge, so I wore a dress. That is all.

Hell Week {22 of 30}

necklace - Betsey Johnson
bracelet - World Market
Green Envelope top - Marshalls
pencil skirt - Marshalls
Merona wedges - Target

My first week of work after vacation was also my boss's vacation, and it was also move-in week at the university. There's a bunch of events to cater as well as usual business to keep up with, so I stayed busy. A long day with multiple VIP events prompted me to go for a part comfortable, part professional outfit, and it worked out quite well!

Wear This, Not That:
For a Job Interview

similar pencil skirt / similar blouse / similar earrings / watch / similar wedges

The building that I work in hosts quite a few job fairs, both for the university we are located at and through other companies and organizations. I am constantly amazed at the way some people dress for these job fairs! The very first impression that you make upon a potential employer is with your appearance, so you need to present yourself in a way that shows you are ready to be employed.

For a job interview, DO:
- Wear a skirt or dress that hits just above the knee
- Wear tailored black or gray trousers
- Wear a low heel
- Pull your hair back from your face
- Hide any visible tattoos, if possible

For a job interview, DO NOT:
- Wear jeans
- Wear a low-cut top or short skirt or dress
- Wear too much makeup, perfume or jewelry
- Wear jeans (I feel this needs to be said twice)
- Wear flip flops (flats can also be iffy, many pairs look too casual)

Not only does dressing appropriately convey that you are serious about your job interview, it will also help to set you apart from others who did not dress for occasion, and it will also help to boost your self-confidence so that you can rock your interview!

EBEW: Monochromatic {21 of 30}

necklace - borrowed from a friend and never given back
Merona belt - Target
top - Maurices
skirt - Marshalls
Merona wedges - Target

I know I took the easy route by wearing all black for a monochromatic style challenge, but I was determined to wear items from my remix. And there was an attempt to wear a monochromatic outfit with other items in my remix, red and nude stripes were paired with red jeans, a chambray shirt was paired with blue ankle pants, and then darker chambray pants ... It was all a disaster. This was the least disaster-like outfit I could bring you.

If anyone asks I'll just tell them I'm mourning the end of my vacation.

A Mary Janes Challenge

Jou Jou boyfriend blazer - Tilly's (buy)
Mary Janes - Discount Women's Dress Shoes (buy)
bubble necklace - BubbleJewellry on Etsy (buy)
Merona skirt - Target (buy)
Mossimo shirt - Target (buy)
Big Star Dylan boyfriend jean - Buckle (buy)

My fellow clothing addict Jessica asked me to help her come up with a teaching outfit to go with her black Mary Jane heels. I love Mary Janes, they are a timeless shoe and the perfect blend of classic style and modern femininity. I decided to stick with classic pieces for her teaching outfit by pairing a knife-pleated skirt and fitted boyfriend blazer with the shoes, and gave it a youthful twist by choosing a shirt in a contrasting shade of pink. Bubble necklaces are the ultimate on-trend accessory right now, and a pair of cuffed jeans can be traded with the skirt for an after-school drink or date night!

One Day More {13 of 30}

BCBGeneration necklace - TJ Maxx (buy)
watch - Fossil (buy similar)
blouse - Maurices
Mossimo pants - Target (buy)
Mossimo flats - Target (buy)

I had no desire to dress up for my last day of work before vacation, especially since it was also inventory day and I wanted to get things cleaned up and organized before leaving for two weeks. I'm so excited to be getting two weeks off, but the excitement is a little tarnished by the fact that at the end of my vacation, Matt leaves for deployment. *sigh*

Spider Country {12 of 30}

necklace - Forever 21 (buy similar)
bracelets - Target
top - Loft
skirt - Marshalls
Merona wedges - Target (buy)

I recently discovered that there is a wolf spider residing on my back porch. As you can probably guess, this discovery was not met with glee, but instead a high pitched squeal of terror that stopped poor Elwood dead in his tracks. I am hoping that Mr. Wolf Spider and I can learn to coexist, as I do not want to give up my photography spot.

If, in future posts, you see any expressions of terror on my face, you'll know that Mr. Wolf Spider decided to drop in on my photo shoot.

Pre-Vacation {11 of 30}

necklace - Kellie Creates (buy)
bracelet - World Market
tank - Loft
cardigan - Marshalls
Mossimo pants - Target (buy)
Aerosoles wedges - TJ Maxx (buy)

My vacation countdown has begun, today is the first of four work days before my two weeks off! I figured comfort would be essential today since I've got a lot of stuff to get done in the office in preparation for being gone. My goal is to have everything squared away so that no one has any reason to call, text or email me until August 11th!

Red and Wild, II {9 of 30}

Tarina Tarantino necklace - Its Eclectic (buy similar)
bracelet - JC Penney (buy similar)
Kirra tank - PacSun (buy similar)
cardigan - Maurices
pants - Gap (buy similar)
Merona - Target (buy)

I suppose this is the work-appropriate version of this outfit. Thursdays are inventory days for me at work, and inventory days usually turn into days to clean up after employees who don't put things away, so pants are always a good idea. What also would have been a good idea is a cami to go under this tank top. I realized after looking down at my chest that anyone taller than me would have had a bit of a, uh, view. Live and learn.

Fluorescent Professional {7 of 30}

necklace - Forever 21 (buy similar)
watch - Fossil (buy similar)
shirt - Forever 21 (buy)
cardigan - Maurices
Merona skirt - Target (buy)
Merona wedges - Target

Let's ignore the fact that I need a haircut and focus on what, I think, is a pretty awesome outfit. I've been scheming ways to work neon into a work ensemble, and to be honest, I'm still testing the limits as far as what I can get away with in regards to my work wardrobe. I actually received a couple of compliments, so I'd say this one was a success!

Boring {3 of 30}

necklaces - It's Eclectic, gifts
watch - Fossil (buy similar)
belt - Delia's
shirt - Gap (buy)
Mossimo pants - Target (buy)
Mossimo flats - Target

Summer is my least-favorite season when it comes to clothing. I have the hardest time creating outfits that are interesting, because the only way I know how to make an outfit interesting is by adding layers. Hopefully this remix will help to get my creative juices flowing.

The Great Outdoors {1 of 30}

necklace - Kellie Creates (buy)
watch - Fossil (buy similar)
bracelet - World Market
belt - Wet Seal (buy similar)
tunic - rescued from a roommate (buy similar)
Merona skirt - Target (buy)
Aerosoles wedges - TJ Maxx (buy)

I'm not sure why it didn't occur to me with my last outfit photos to aim my camera at our nice backyard rather than the ugly siding on the side of our house. Bear with me as I adjust to this newfangled taking-pictures-outdoors thing.

I decided to allow myself two new pieces of clothing for my remix, and a purple skirt has been on my wishlist ever since I saw one on Sydney, so I am quite happy with this purchase.

One outfit down, twenty-nine to go!

*note: If you're interested in the Merona skirt, it is truer to color in my photo than in the photo on their site.

EBEW: Colorblocking

necklace - gift (buy similar)
bracelet - JC Penney (buy similar)
George cami - Walmart (buy similar)
Mossimo dress - Target (buy)
jacket - Forever 21 (buy similar)
Mossimo flats - Target (buy)

Lessons I learned from my first outdoor photo shoot: The natural sunlight makes colors pop, but it also makes me squint. Also, photos need to be taken quickly because mosquitoes are a threat and sweating sets in almost immediately.

See more colorblocked outfits here.

Back Into the Swing

necklace - Forever 21
bracelets - Target
Aztec print dress - Marshalls (buy similar)
Merona wedges - Target

To say that I've been a bit overwhelmed lately would be an understatement. I bought this dress nearly three weeks ago and am just now getting around to photographing it and wearing it to work! Things aren't calming down anytime soon, either. As soon as Matt get's back from being underway this month we will be moving, I have an order for four dozen necklaces to finish and ship before July (I'm going retail!) and I still have to find time for my actual job, too. (You know, the one that pays the bills?)

But through all of that I'm going to try to get back into the swing of this blog. It's a hobby that I get a lot of enjoyment out of, and it's nice to have something that I have complete creative control over.
