30!

magenta poplin button-down - Victoria's Secret (buy) / Black Poppy tank - PacSun (buy similar)
pencil skirt - Marshalls (buy similar) / statement necklace - Forever 21 (buy similar)
belt - came on a Windsor shirt / Mossimo flats - Target (buy)

When I started this challenge I started out only planning to do 15 outfits. I figured that since it was my first remix, 15 days would be hard enough. And here I am, posting outfit 30! The remix ended up corresponding perfectly with my move tomorrow, I was able to pack all of my clothes except for the items I knew I was going to wear. Now that's convenience!

Speaking of my move, two things:

1. Expect to see some moving posts. I'm especially looking forward to having a bigger closet to set up, and also getting to create my own little crafting station.

2. Tomorrow is the last day of my Etsy moving sale. Use the coupon code "movingowl" to receive 20% off of your purchase. (I'll actually be posting a new item on my shop as soon as I'm done here!)

I'm so excited about my new apartment, I'm like a giddy kid on Christmas Eve!

The End is Nigh

dress - Loft / belt - Wet Seal / Aerosoles wedges - TJ Maxx
Wayra necklace - handmade (buy)

My black loft dress is a bit hard to style, the top is too cumbersome to wear anything over it and the v-neck isn't cut in a way that I can wear anything layered under it. So the only way to create options in styling this dress is with accessories.

Girls' night with Jess and Lisa was a bit of a bust. Our favorite club downtown is full of unsavory people on Friday nights, and the club that we tried after the Pearl was hosting a goth night. They were nice folks, but it wasn't really our scene. Anyway, at least I didn't spend enough time in either bar to drink much, so I was hangover free this morning and able to do some more apartment shopping with Jess. I picked up some cleaning supplies, got a gorgeous jewelry hook at Pier One for an upcoming project, and found this guy:

I probably should have considered taking an oil sheet to my face before taking this photo, but oh well.

For anyone looking forward to my last remix outfit, don't. I'm feeling incredibly uninspired and will probably be too distracted by my move on Tuesday to come up with anything truly genius. But you know what? I made it! (Perhaps I should wait until after number 30 is posted to say that?)

Sweater-Belting For Beginners

Kirra tank - PacSun (buy similar) / teal Mossimo cardigan - Target
navy Mossimo trousers - Target (buy) / Aerosoles wedges - TJ Maxx (buy similar)
jade bracelets - handmade (buy similar - receive 20% off when you  enter coupon code "movingowl")

I've tried doing the belt-over-the-sweater thing many, many times. Every time I end up feeling like it either looks forced or just doesn't look good, but I decided to just go for it today.

I'm currently down to 29 items because my black wedges officially saw their last use yesterday, but rather than using that as an excuse to sub in another item, I'm going to keep on trucking an item short.

Tomorrow is Friday. And pay day. And girls' night with Jess and Lisa. Win, win, win.

The Pretty Blue Dress

Mossimo dress - Target (buy similar) / Lingerie Solutions lace bandeau - Target (buy similar)
belt - Windsor (came with a shirt) / statement necklace - Forever 21 (buy similar)
watch - Fossil (buy similar)

I get compliments on this dress every time I wear it. Today one of the maintenance guys on campus told me I had on "a pretty blue dress" today, but he stuttered the first time he tried to tell me. Must be a powerful shade of blue, eh?

In case you don't feel like going back a whole one post, I'm hosting a moving sale on my Etsy. At the rate that my moving helpers are dropping off, I might have to hire movers just to get the four pieces of furniture I own to my new place. Just enter the coupon code "movingowl" to receive 20% off your purchase.

I'm throwing myself a pity party tonight. I should be done celebrating by tomorrow.

PS - Those bandeaus that I linked to because I couldn't find the original on the Target website? I totally bookmarked those suckers, I might buy a couple!

The Final Countdown(s)

Mossimo denim shirt - Target (buy) / black pencil skirt - Marshall's (buy similar
belt - Wet Seal (buy similar) / watch - Fossil (buy similar
Wayra necklace - handmade (buy)

I've got quite a bit on my plate these days, and lots of things to count down to. All of them good, I think. Let's review

Three days until pay day.
Five outfits until the end of my remix challenge.
Seven days until I move.
Twelve days until I see my FAVORITE band, Bayside.
Twenty-two days until Matthew returns from deployment.
Twenty-seven days until Matthew's birthday.
(He gets to be the same age as me for exactly a month.)

Oh, and speaking of numbers, I got five compliments on my outfit today. And yes, I counted. Don't judge me.

Just Keep Swimming

Finishing Touch tank - Wolfgang (buy similar) / Kirra tank - PacSun (buy similar)
BDG shorts - Urban Outfitters / Tarina Tarantino necklace - It's Eclectic! (buy similar)
rubber watch - unknown (buy similar) / marbleized bead macrame bracelet - handmade (buy)

Just because I had a scary doctor's appointment today (let's just say there was a high-powered microscope involved) there was no excuse not to keep pushing forward in my remix. Getting good news from the doctor is even more fun when you look cute! The outfit was also perfect for the ten thousand errands I had to run today! Okay, it was more like six errands, but it felt like thousands by the time I was done!

Back to the grind tomorrow. I'll be wearing an outfit that required a Google search to assure me it was safe to wear!

Desperate Times

The closer I get to the end of the remix, the harder it becomes. Which I guess is the whole idea, right? I couldn't wear the outfit I originally had planned for Friday because I hadn't finished making the necklace I wanted to wear with it, so I had to make a quick, desperate scramble for an outfit before work in the morning. This is what I came up with.

I spent the afternoon at work doing some more internet window shopping. I think the first item I buy post-remix is going to come from Asos, there's some colorful capris on there that are looking for a home in my closet!

Untucked

lace-back tank - Express (buy similar) / black cardigan - Maurices (buy similar) / purple pencil skirt - Ross (buy similar) / Lomasi necklace - handmade (buy) / watch - Fossil (buy similar) / Asian bangle - World Market (buy similar)

In retrospect this outfit was a bit frumpy, and there was a time not too long ago where a sub-bar ensemble would ruin my day. Now I just write it off as a learning experience and get on with my life. Ahh, fashion maturity.

Belted

magenta poplin button-down - Victoria's secret (buy) / animal skin belt - unknown
black lace cami - Charlotte Russe (buy similar) / navy Mossimo trousers - Target (buy)
necklace - Swarovski (buy chain, similar charm) / watch - Fossil (buy similar)

I'm not big into the belting shirts thing. Most of the time when I buy a shirt that comes with a belt, I cut off the belt loops and wear the shirt without it. I decided to step out of my comfort zone and belted my magenta button-down. I think the overall effect of creating a defined waist-line was successful, but I'll like the look more when I shed some unwanted pounds!

I'm a day behind in outfits, I'll try to get today's up if I'm not sidetracked with necklace-making!

The 5th of July

Mossimo dress - Target (buy similar) / belt - Wet Seal (buy similar
Adsila necklace - handmade (buy) / watch - Fossil (buy similar)

On the 5th of July I went back to work after a long, enjoyable weekend. My roommates, on the other hand, had the day off, so they celebrated Cinco de Julio and wore sombreros, ate tacos, and drank margaritas. You think I'm kidding. I'm not.

Here's what I replaced my gray capris with. I'm sure Jess will be proud to see me swapping something for color for something bland. And I do believe this is the dress she was referring to when she said she was sure every girl had one in her closet.

'Til later,

The Birds and the Beads

black cardigan - Maurices (buy similar) / Kirra tank - PacSun (buy similar)
navy Mossimo trousers - Target (buy) / Lomasi necklace - handmade (buy)

See what I did there? I was wearing a bird tank and a bead necklace. I'm so punny sometimes.

It's been a long (but fun!) day, so I'm going to keep this one short. I decided to switch out a 30 for 30 item that I have yet to wear for something else. I don't even like my gray capris that much, so I don't know why I included them in my remix. I may just purge them from my closet altogether. I'll be wearing the swapped item tomorrow, try to be patient until then.

Happy Fourth!

PS - I move in in two weeks. Hopefully the new place will have better lighting for my photos!

Pattern Mixing Virgin

nautical cardigan - Forever 21 (buy similar) / floral tank - PacSun (buy similar)
pencil skirt - Marshalls (buy similar) / belt (came with a shirt) - Windsor
necklace - Swarovski (buy chain, buy similar charm) / Asian bangle - World Market (buy similar
watch - Fossil (buy)

The 30 for 30 Remix is actually starting to become a challenge because I'm trying things that I never would have tried before. Like mixing a floral tank with a striped, nautical cardigan. I still haven't decided if the combination works, but I didn't scare any children or receive disapproving looks from any elderly women, so I suppose I'm in the clear.

The Great Hummingbird Rescue

black dress - Loft (buy similar) / black belt (came with a shirt) - Windsor
turquoise bangle - Casa Rodriguez in St. Augustine (buy similar) / watch - Fossil (buy)
 Litonya necklace - Etsy (buy)

I'm going to use last night's format again, it made things so easy!

Today I:
- worked 11 hours.
- made the most bizarre delivery of my catering career.
- made $30 bartending an event where I only served five drinks. (I'm that good.)
- rescued a hummingbird from certain death by trampling.

So I went to the Starbucks on campus to pick up my daily latte (free 'Bucks happens to be one of my job perks!), and as I was leaving I saw something on the ground. At first I just thought it was trash, but then I realized that whatever it was, it seemed to be heaving. A closer inspection showed that it was a hummingbird lying on the ground, presumably stunned from crashing into the mirrored windows overhead. I pointed the bird out to a couple of the girls working at the coffee shop, and one of them bravely scooped up the bird and placed it in a nearby plant while I kept an eye out for anyone that might trample the poor thing. In honor of my brave hummingbird friend, I named the necklace that I finished last night "Litonya," which apparently is a Native American word for "darting hummingbird."

Hope your day was eventful, too!
