Hype

necklace - Forever 21 / belt - came with a top / dress - Francesca's (sold out)
Mossimo heels - Target (buy)

New Year's Eve is such a hyped-up holiday, and I fall prey to it every year. All of these big "bashes" are organized, and there's sequins and glitter and noisemakers and tiaras and fireworks and champagne ... Then midnight strikes, everyone kisses someone, and it's over. So anticlimactic.

I love getting dressed up and looking my best for New Year's, however, so when I found this dress at Francesca's for 75% off, I was excited to once again be a part of the hype, but on a budget!

Oh, and champagne? I'm a fan. Can we have more holidays that are celebrated with bubbly, please?

Jessica's Quarter-of-a-Century Celebration

necklace - Betsey Johnson / tube top - random online store / lace tee - Forever 21 (buy similar)
jeans - Gap (buy) / heels - Target

I told you I loved the lace tee that I got for Christmas, I've managed to wear it twice in one week. Oh, and the heels? Jess talked me into buying them a few years ago, back when I was afraid of being "girly."

This one's for you, Jess!

Weekend Wrap-Up

sweater - H&M (buy similar) / high-waist shorts - Wolfgang (buy similar) / necklace - handmade (buy)
flip-flops - O'Neil (buy similar)

Mossimo dress - Target / necklace - Forever 21 / heels - Charlotte Russe

My weekend in the briefest description possible:

Bead show at UNF: I got a bracelet and picked up some beads, including some to make a bracelet for Matt.

Shopping at the St. John's Town Center: I snapped a photo of one of the walls in the brand-new Fossil store. I plan to do something similar in the apartment.

Birthday celebration for Paula: Her 21st birthday was last Monday, so we went out to my favorite club -- also her favorite club -- to have a few adult beverages and do some dancing.

All of the above happened on Saturday, which is why Matt and I didn't get out of bed until 1 p.m. on Sunday. When we finally did join the living, however, we had chocolate chip pancakes and bacon, and it was glorious.

Hope everyone enjoyed their weekends as well!

Beeeeads!

I had plans for a pretty nice date night outfit, but after picking up two new necklaces from Kellie, I HAD to wear one (a similar option is above). It happened to match an Express top I have in my remix perfectly. Along with dark skinny jeans from AE and wedges from Old Navy, I had an outfit I felt awesome in.

A special thanks to James for his fantastic photog skills, and the title of this post :)

Let's Get Proactive!

I thought I'd use a little study break to take pictures of my outfit from last Monday, and then go ahead and take a pic of tomorrow's outfit.
This is one of my go-to dresses (3); I had another outfit planned but ruined it in a dancing-while-putting-on-liquid-foundation incident. So I tossed this dress from Target on (I'm sure every girl has one, I happen to have a few in different colors), with a glass and bead necklace from my very first post, fuchsia flower earrings, and a red headband (my hair was down, too). I also wore a charming bracelet with my big gold watch, and jingled all through class.

I'm wearing this outfit (5) tomorrow for my first test of the week. As mentioned in a previous post, I like to look really snazzy for tests, as it always makes me a little more confident. This is a top from Loft and black shorts from Banana Republic. It's going to be super hot tomorrow, so the shorts are a must. I added the same little charm bracelet, a mauve pearl necklace, and my fish necklace from Forever 21.

One day, two outfits.

My non-best-friend Scotti was in town this weekend, and we made very good use of our time together on Saturday. We hit up the Avenues Mall in the afternoon and I am proud to report that I have still resisted buying any clothing, despite our trip to the two-story Forever 21. I did, however, finally track down a camel belt at Wet Seal! Keep an eye out for it in one of my remix outfits.

I made my denim shirt debut at the mall in a Mossimo button-down that I picked up on sale at Target for $13! I paired it with my Urban Outfitters corduroy shorts, a belt that came with a Forever 21 dress, and my brown Volcom flip flops. I accessorized with a few of my handmade macrame bracelets. (I don't have them listed on my Etsy, but if you see something you like or would like a similar bracelet in different colors, leave me a comment or email me at Kellie_Conboy@yahoo.com) I also wore my sweet purple faux Ray Ban shades that my boyfriend tracked down on a stop in Greece during his deployment. I'm hoping they make another stop at that port so that he can find me another pair!

Later on we met a few other folks at La Napolera and then headed downtown to a couple of bars for drinks. I wore my black button-down tank from Wolfgang with a plum and black bandeau bra from Metropark underneath it for a pop of color. I returned again to my Forever 21 statement necklace, I'm really glad I've rediscovered this piece because for a while I didn't wear it. Ever. I also returned to my favorite World Market bangle. I kept things simple on the bottom with my dark wash Gap skinny jeans and black flip flops.

Naturally my night ended at the Pearl where everyone was sporting custom name tags made by the door guy. Mine said "Silly Jewelry Posting Woman." I guess the fellas just don't appreciate the excessive posting of my wares on Facebook.

In 30 for 15 Remix news, I decided to make an executive decision and switch out one of my black cardigans -- that I have not yet worn! -- for a teal cardigan. In retrospect it was silly to include two sweaters in the same color in my 30 items.

Hope everyone had a nice, relaxing Father's Day!

Put On My Boogie Shoes

I have to agree with Kellie: one of the best parts of going out is getting dressed up! Between going to class and taking care of kids, I don't often get to wear heels and short dresses. So last night I had a girl's night with Kellie and my sister from another mister, Lisa.
I wore a dress from Forever 21's nicer line, Love 21. It was a little pricier than I like to pay for Forever 21, but I got them to take 10% off. Skills! It's hard to tell in pictures, but the dress comes in at my waist and has a really pretty keyhole detail in the back. It also tinkles when I move, making me feel like a gypsy. I'm longing for a wide brown belt, I feel that would have added some definition to my waist. On my feet were a pair of awesomely comfortable clogs from Target. I can wear them to dinner and then dancing; after 4 hours of shaking it my feet aren't screaming. Love it! Add to it some outrageously large gold hoops and a gold necklace from my great-grandmother.

Can't wait for next Saturday!! --Jessica Sunshine

Bye bye, Bakers.

Jess and I (along with the very awesome Lisa) hit up the Pearl last night for some drinks and dancing. Years ago when we first started heading out to this bar we would wear shorts or denim skirts and tank tops and considered that "dressing up." Oh, young naivete! We've since learned to step things up a bit, and now a big part of why I still enjoy going out is the getting dressed up to go out!

Before I headed downtown last night I hit up a bar in Jacksonville Beach to catch my friends in Rebels and Rogues, so I needed an outfit that would work in both atmospheres. Jeans seemed an obvious choice, and if I'm wearing jeans it's almost always my dark wash Gap skinny jeans. I paired my denim with a top that I picked up at Wolfgang -- I love this shirt because it combines an edgy black and magenta pattern with feminine lace. I didn't want to drown out the shirt with too much jewelry so I accessorized with my Forever 21 statement necklace and a big sparkly ring. I have no idea of the origins of this ring, it was turned in to the Pearl bartenders one night and never claimed, so they turned it over to me. Thanks, boys! I wore simple black Volcom flip flops for the show and switched them out for my pink Bakers heels when I got downtown.

Sadly, last night was my last time with these amazing shoes as they have started to wear out. We had some good times together, I had a gay guy at the bar once tell me that I "need to teach people how to buy shoes" because he liked my heels so much, and they have earned me many more compliments over the years. In honor of the pink Bakers, I would like to have a moment of silence for them:

Ouch!

Well, you haven't heard the last of me for today. As I type I am waiting for my laundry to finish up so that I can post my 30 items for the 15 for 30 remix!

Until later!

Something Blue!

This weekend I attended an old roommate's wedding. Despite having 3 outfits laid out, 15 minutes before leaving I screeched, "I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!" and threw this Forever 21 dress on. I love this blue, and it must have aligned my fashion chakra since I felt quite pretty in it.
Unable to tell from the picture, it has a really cool draping detail at the front and back, and moves nicely on the dance floor. A basic black belt and some black strappy sandals (I've had them forever, no idea where I got them) completed the ensemble.

I'm always unsure of what to wear at weddings (people have different interpretations of cocktail/dressy/semi-formal) so when I hit the mark I have to pat myself on the back. *pat* Off to plan my own nuptials; happy Tuesday! --Jessica Sunshine

Hola, Weekend

I had a busy weekend, so that meant lots of different outfits (always fun).
On Friday evening, my fiancee and I went to see The Hangover, Part II. Theaters are always cold, and it was a really bleary day, so I added a black sequin jacket from Urban Outfitters and black sequin flats from Target. I sparkled through the night and stayed cozy in the AC.

Silver top- Old Navy; Teal Top- Forever 21; Jacket- Urban Outfitters; Jeans- American Eagle; Shoes- Mossimo

Saturday I had errands galore to run, so I went with an outfit that was good for bouncing around town and staying cool in the heat. My Rocketdog cork wedges were supremely comfy and my Forever 21 gauze shirt was breezy and sweet.

Sweater- Banana Republic; Top- Forever 21; Shorts- Loft; Wedges- Rocketdog

Sunday was a Memorial Day BBQ at my fiancee's house. My new top from Loft was perfect for lounging by the pool, and matched well with my black Banana Republic shorts. For some sparkle I added a necklace from Forever 21.

A wonderful weekend (minus a botched trip to the Pearl--frown)! Ready for the next one :) --Jessica Sunshine

Necessary Comforts

It was an incredibly hot day, so for date night tonight I wanted something comfortable but still cute. The top is an Old Navy with a slight sheen and the pants are cotton navy J.Crew. Earrings are pearl bobs that I made. All-in-all, nice for sitting through dinner and the 3 hour movie I saw (Pirates of the Caribbean, not too shabby).
Sweet Dreams, all! --Jessica Sunshine
