Glimpses

Obviously I have been wearing lots of clothes. And most of my outfits have been really cute. However, I get out of class at 9 o'clock four nights a week, and am not always the prettiest. I have yet to master the mirror shot like dear Kellie, so until then I have to wait until I can get James to snap a few wardrobe changes in a spare moment.

I realize in one of my more recent posts that I wore this Forever 21 black skirt; I promise I do not wear it with the frequency at which it is posted. 

 I took a break from my busy life to catch Eisley, one of my favorite bands. I went with my darling friend Bekah and her husband David, and bumped into my friend Lauren there, too. The Eisely sisters are style icons to me, their outfits were adorable!! It was a great show, even if it was a Monday.

Weekend Wrap-Up

My weekend in the briefest description possible:

Bead show at UNF: I got a bracelet and picked up some beads, including some to make a bracelet for Matt.

Shopping at the St. John's Town Center: I snapped a photo of one of the walls in the brand-new Fossil store. I plan to do something similar in the apartment.

Birthday celebration for Paula: Her 21st birthday was last Monday, so we went out to my favorite club -- also her favorite club -- to have a few adult beverages and do some dancing.

All of the above happened on Saturday, which is why Matt and I didn't get out of bed until 1 p.m. on Sunday. When we finally did join the living, however, we had chocolate chip pancakes and bacon, and it was glorious.

Work to Play-Date

Matt and I are still without internet in the apartment, so I suggested heading to the St. John's Town Center -- home of free wifi -- to get in some quality computer time. My wardrobe change from work to play was a simple one: I took off my belt, took off my cardigan, put my belt back on, and done!

Now if only trying to squeeze an internet date, grocery date, dinner date and gym date all into one evening were as easy. Wish me luck!

Scenes From a Dressing Room: 8.12.11

I took advantage of tax-free weekend (and pay day) and headed to the Avenues Mall after work today. I took my friend Paula along and she proved to be an excellent shopping assistant. Seriously, this girl was a machine, picking out items for me to try on. Can you guess which pieces I bought?

In the spirit of slowly trying to overhaul my closet, I pulled about 20 items together that I'm trying to get rid of. No offers have been made yet, perhaps I should just take them to Goodwill? I'd love to pick up some cash, though, even if it's $20. Guess we'll see what happens.

Weekend Wrap-Up

My apologies for a longer-than-usual absence! With Matt getting back last Wednesday, running errands to get the apartment in order, and still having to work Thursday through Sunday, life has been just a wee bit hectic.

Craziness aside, I still managed to capture a few images from the weekend.

We had our first dinner together in the apartment Friday night. We're still lacking in the dining furniture department, so my footlocker served as a dining-room table and the floor as our chairs. I made Mexican stuffed peppers and got to enjoy a glass of wine that was brought to me from France. Pretty awesome, huh? Those flowers were also from Matt, he had them in hand when he got off the boat on Wednesday.

I didn't think to snap any pictures on Saturday, but in a nutshell we went to an arts market in downtown Jacksonville, went to my favorite shop in the historic district, picked up some new clothes for Matt at the mall, and picked out a couch. We're so excited to have a couch, you have no idea!

The shorts pictured in my outfit came from Wolfgang. I bought a pair of linen black shorts from Forever 21 last week to wear to the pier for Matt's homecoming, but the darn things were wrinkled and sagging in the rear by noon. I know better than to expect high quality from F21, but I think I redeemed myself with the Wolfgang pair.

Sunday was slightly less hectic, a couple of stops at the St. John's Town Center and an early dinner at Mimi's Cafe. We stopped in at West Elm where there was an entire wall display of owls. Sadly we left without one, but I made sure to mention that I still need three or four more owls to complete my collection.

Off to watch a movie and get to bed to so we can wake up for our couch delivery in the morning!

Baubles and Blue

Shopping day with Kellie, and the first stop was the Clothing Warehouse for some Tiffany blue wayfarers. 

Onto browsing through the best thrift store in 5 Points for ideas on jewelry reworking (bolo ties, anyone?) and a couple vases. Collected an inspiration or two from a lariat pearl necklace and a wire-and-glass-bead number. 

A sale at Loft left me with a $7 shirt and new pair of shorts to covet; I'd say it was a successful shopping trip.

Never Quit Beach Fest

I participated in my first 5K ever on Saturday in Jacksonville Beach. The Never Quit Beach Festival, now in its third year, is an all-day fitness experience.

 

Participants in all of the events received a sea turtle necklace, appraised at $250. Even better, our prizes were awarded to us by Navy officers in their dress whites! I made sure to get a picture to send to my boyfriend who's on deployment, nothing like a little incentive for him to get that promotion, right? My friend Sam and I bought matching outfits to wear during the race, our blue Jockey tank tops and pink and blue Under Amror compression capris came from Marshalls, and my black mesh running shorts were just $8 at Academy Sports! My pink and gray Nike Lunarflys -- which I adore -- were also from Academy.

 

I'm still incredibly out of shape -- it took me almost twice as long to finish as it did for Sam to reach the finish line -- but this is just the first of many races for me!

Not-so-casual Friday

Unlike some offices where the day of the week dictates the work wardrobe, my wardrobe is dictated by what's going on each day. Today we had a served lunch for about 250 people, so it wasn't a day to go casual. I found this skirt at Ross, it was hanging on one of the display racks in the aisle, just calling my name. The blouse and the belt are from Maurices, and the shoes are from Target. I go through dress shoes pretty quickly with my job, so Target is a great place to get cute shoes at a good price.

  
Today was also pay day, which for me means shopping day! I met Jessica and her mom at the St. John's Town Center and picked up a coral ruffle tank at Private Gallery, then I headed over to the Avenues Mall where I picked up a layered necklace, a belted batwing blouse and a light gray pencil skirt at Windsor. I also stopped at New York and Company to look for work clothes, and found a couple of v-neck blouses that would have been good for both work and play, and a cute purple belt, but I ended up putting my selections back on the rack because it was taking way too long to check out. The only associate I encountered the entire time I was in the store was the fitting room attendant, and she wasn't exactly polite. I wasn't greeted at any point that I was in the store, and none of the associates even seemed to care that I was there shopping, so I decided not to spend my money. 

Thanks for giving me time to rethink a $60 purchase, NY&C!
