Style Blocked

bracelets - Delia's, Express, Forever 21, JC Penny
belt - Delia's / Calvin Klein button-down - Marshalls / Bullhead shorts - PacSun
O'Neil flip flops - Aqua East

I know things have been a bit quiet around my corner of the internet. At the risk of this becoming a "pity me, my life is so hard" post, I will give you a brief list of what's been going on:

1. I got an order for 48 necklaces to be completed before a hatching festival in August.
2. Matt got back from three weeks of being underway.*
3. Matt was underway for three weeks.*
4. As soon as Matt got back we moved, unpacked our new place, and had a 4th of July party.

*Numbers two and three are both very different, I assure you.

On top of all of the craziness, my drive to blog and my inspiration to put together an outfit that (in my opinion) is worth photographing has sort of gone out the window. I need to do something to reset my brain, and shopping isn't much of an option at the moment. (Is it just me, or is moving freaking expensive?!)

With all that being said, I plan to head home today to my new (tiny!) closet, pull out some items, and do an old-fashioned 30 for 30 remix. I've been waiting for another one to be announced, but I realize that Miss Kendi has her plate pretty full these days.

Thanks for sticking around.

Reliable

bracelet - JC Penney
belt - Delia's
Xhilaration dress - Target
Xhilaration sandals - Target

For this dress being as simple and inexpensive as it is, it has proved to be quite versatile. Different belt, different shoes ... It can be dressed up or down and worn for both casual and work wear. I'm on the hunt for more dresses like this one.

Another excuse to go to Target? Shucks.

Tied & Tucked

BCBGeneration necklace - TJ Maxx (buy)
bracelets - JC Penney, World Market, Forever 21
watch - Fossil (buy similar)
Calvin Klein - Marshalls
pants - Gap (buy)
Mossimo flats - Target

My beloved dots shirt is a bit long and a bit baggy, so finding ways to make it more fitted is always a factor in building an outfit around it. Today I tied it up in the front, but to avoid looking like I was going to a sock hop I tucked the ends of the tie into my pants. It's strange to think that just a year ago I wouldn't have thought of such a technique, I would have written the top off as uncooperative and moved on. How things change!

Dots & Denim

bracelets - Delia's, Express, Forever 21, JC Penny (buy similar JCP bracelet) / Merona belt - Target
Calvin Klein shirt - Marshalls / Salt Works jeans - TJ Maxx / O'Neil flip flops - Aqua East

Since starting this blog I have put the most effort into styling outfits for work, and casual outfits were more of an afterthought. Granted, 75 percent of my week is spent in work clothes, but that other 25 percent of the time is when the most creativity is allowed. There are no rules holding back my casual outfits (aside from the ones I make for myself), therefore I should be more enthusiastic about having fun with my off-the-clock ensembles. Now that my work wardrobe is more built up I think I'll have an easier time overcoming that mental voice that says "that item of clothing can't be used as part of your work wardrobe, you shouldn't buy it," and that will hopefully result in well-planned outfits 100 percent of the time.

Debate Day, Part II

bracelets - World Market, Target (buy similar to World Market bracelet,
buy similar to Target bracelets) / belt - Target / watch - Fossil - (buy similar)
Calvin Klein shirt - Marshalls (buy) / pants - Zara (buy - ON SALE!)
Merona wedges - Target (buy)

I came home in the midst of my busy day yesterday to let Elwood out and took advantage of the opportunity to snap some outfit photos. Yesterday was exciting, but I'm glad we don't have days like that all the time. Trying to work with media all over the place just watching you as you're wheeling around heavy, overladen carts is a pain in the behind!

I can't believe I have two more days of work to go. Bring it!

Spots

watch - Fossil (buy similar) / earrings - Target (buy similar) / Calvin Klein blouse - Marshalls (buy)
Lauren Conrad blazer - Kohl's (buy) / Mossimo pants - Target (buy)
Aerosoles wedges - TJ Maxx (buy)

You know how when you walk into Marshalls and there's that section as soon as you walk in of women's clothing, and there's really awesome stuff looking you right in the face? I spotted this shirt as soon as I walked in the door and knew I probably wanted it. By the time I reached the shirt, felt the lush fabric and saw that it was a well-known designer, I knew it had to be mine. Trying it on was just habitual procedure.

I'm so excited to remix this shirt, you have no idea!

Oops. I did it again ...

owl locket - Etsy / watch - Fossil (buy similar) / bracelets - Express / Xhilaration dress - Target
Mossimo cardigan - Target /  Sam & Libby Priscilla boots - DSW (buy) / scarf - World  Market

I tried not to wear teal again today, I really did. First I had on a different dress with a purple grandpa cardigan. Then I had on this dress with the same cardigan. Then I switched the cardigan out for a cropped bright red (almost orange) jacket. I liked that for a while, long enough to walk Elwood while wearing it, but then I decided that it was too much for work. So then I tried my dolman sweater -- in the same color as the aforementioned jacket -- and wasn't fond of that, either. So teal it is.

Oh, and speaking of Elwood, he was staring at me the entire time I took my photos this morning. I don't think he liked that I moved his crate to the kitchen so that I could use his space.
